Problem: Honor killings" are acts of violence, usually murder, committed by male family members against female family members who are perceived to have brought dishonor upon the family. (Human Rights Watch) . While they are illegal in most countries, "honor killings" still occur all too often with no consequences. The UN estimates that around 5,000 women and girls are murdered each year in so-called "honor killings" by members of their families. (Amnesty International).
