Select a new digital innovation (process, product, service, or business model innovation). This may include a "conventional" product or service which makes effective use of digital innovation as part of its business model). For your assignment, you will analyse the product or service, selecting four of the following five questions:
What type of innovation is it (disruptive, "big bang" or sustaining), and why?
How does your chosen innovation fit into Figure 1 of Michel, Brown and Gallan's (2008) paper? Justify your choice.
How is the business model enabled by digitisation, Moore's law, and the network effect?
What contextual factors are most important for the innovation, such as global trends or changes in the business, cultural, organisational or political environment? It is up to you to identify relevant contextual factors.
What types of value does the innovation offer consumers?
Your essay should have the following structure:
Introduction: Briefly introduce the product or service you have selected (approx. 200 words)
Analysis: This should be based on the four questions you've chosen from the above list. Each answer should be approximately 400 words long. You may use diagrams as necessary to illustrate your key points, which must be supported by examples and appropriate references.
Conclusion: Overall, based on the evidence you present, how does the selected product or service exemplify the theories of digital business covered in the first modules of this course? (approx. 200 words)
