Assignemnt: Internalized Immigration and Acculturation
Use the unit readings addressing the concerns confronting African Americans, Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders, Muslim Americans, Jewish Americans, and Hispanic/Latino Americans in the United States to discuss the following for two selected populations.
• Explain how institutional racism could result in internalized oppression for members of marginalized populations. Provide examples relevant to a specific minority group, based on the chapters you selected.
• Discuss how historical and current views on immigration result in challenges for the selected populations.
• Define, in your own words, acculturation and provide an example of how this may impact ethnic minorities and their families.
• Use the COUN5336: Researching in Your Specialization Area library guide and identify at least one peer- reviewed article that address the characteristics, concerns, and culturally relevant counseling strategies that would be appropriate for this population.
