Discussion 1 (Steven):

Employee beliefs and values greatly influence workplace dynamics and outcomes. Shared beliefs and positive attitudes are essential for forming a cohesive team in successful firms.

Understanding how human views and organizational values interact can assist in creating an atmosphere that is consistent with a company's vision and goals, resulting in higher success.

Personal values like honesty, ethics, and work-life balance influence how individuals approach their jobs. For example, a person who values integrity is more likely to promote transparency and ethical behavior in all interactions, which can boost team trust. Similarly, someone who prioritizes work-life balance may fight for legislation that promotes flexible work arrangements, resulting in a more inclusive and friendly workplace. These personal values influence not only how people accomplish their jobs, but also how they interact with coworkers, solve problems, and contribute to team culture.

Employee behavior and attitudes are heavily influenced by a company's declared values, which may include creativity, teamwork, or customer attention. Employees are more likely to be motivated, engaged, and devoted to their work when they believe their values are truly aligned with those of the firm. For example, a company that values innovation encourages its staff to think creatively and take measured risks, establishing a culture of continual improvement and adaptation. Similarly, a focus on cooperation can result in more teamwork and open communication, which improves overall productivity and workplace harmony.

Conflicts can emerge when individual and corporate values are not aligned. For example, an individual who values autonomy may feel confined in a highly structured firm that places a premium on precise process adherence. An organization that prioritizes customer happiness may collide with employees who believe that internal team well-being is also vital. If not handled properly, these issues can lead to low morale, low job satisfaction, and high turnover.

To resolve such issues, firms should promote open conversation and encourage employees to express their concerns. Leaders can play a critical role by listening to feedback and identifying common ground that aligns individual and organizational values. Creating a culture of tolerance and inclusion that values varied viewpoints can also help.

Companies such as Google, which place a premium on invention and creativity, are a good example of how workplace values influence success. Google's culture pushes employees to think beyond the box, resulting in ground-breaking products and services that have catapulted the business to the top of the digital industry. On the other hand, a negative example could be a corporation that preaches cooperation yet rewards individual performance, resulting in a competitive rather than collaborative climate that can harm team dynamics and productivity.

Discussion 2 (Loretta):

If an organization hires a person that does not have good work ethics and a bad attitude, this can spill over into the organization life a fast-moving virus. When other employees see a new hire or even someone that has worked in the organization for years, barely doing work or pulling his/her own weight, it can cause others to take on or adapt that type of behavior. In my own experience, I have always been a hard worker. I have worked in health care for many years and in this field, I have worked with the elderly, the sick and the disabled. When I provide care and assistance, I always give respect and do my best because I believe that we should put ourselves in the place of others and think about how we would want to be treated if ever we were in a delicate situation. I think about my mother and what she went through lying in a hospital and fighting cancer. It was a battle that she lost but she was always treated well by the staff, and she was surrounded by all the people who loved her in her passing. Some overlook this aspect of life because they do not believe that they will ever find themselves in such a situation, but anything can happen, and karma is something that truly exists.

When a company hires a new person, they need to give them the hiring package that includes expectations for all employees, they need to watch videos and learn about the organization culture as well as what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior. Early on during the hiring process, it can be easy to root out those that will not be a good fit with the organization by calling up references and speaking with past supervisors. Leaders should use themselves as examples for employees and employees do take pointers from the leaders in the organization and attempt to mirror behaviors, attitudes as well as work ethic.

Issues that can arise between an employee and an organization can be perceived from that employee believing that he/she is being treated unfairly, there is favoritism or that employee may believe that he/she is doing more than his share of work yet being overlooked for a promotion that has been given to someone who does not put in maximum efforts that the employee hold himself to. The best thing to do is to monitor employees and to treat everyone fairly and when making considerations for promotions, there should be a deep dive into which employee has worked hard and stood out as the best candidate. Those who may be overlooked need to receive an explanation of why one employee was chosen over the other. Clear communication is very important in situations such as the aforementioned.

Positive workplace attitudes can be coming into work with a smile on your face, saying good morning to coworkers and arriving bright and early, ready to start daily tasks. Negative attitudes about work would be someone coming in late, complaining, not smiling or speaking to others and moping around all day. This can cause negativity in the workplace and drag down other employees' happy disposition. From a leadership perspective, to instill positivity, the leader should act as an example. I would come in speaking to my employees, smiling, asking about their weekend, and sharing stories about my own weekend. Positivity, respect and loyalty all flow from the top and when employees understand that they are important and a vital part of the company or organization's success, this instills within them a commitment to the leader and the organization as they take pride in the job that they do as a vital asset of the organization.
