How hospital beds affect reduction of incidences of injuries

Problem: Respond to My PICOT question was related to pressure injuries. In hospitalized patients, how does the use of pressure relieving mattresses compared to standard hospital beds affect the reduction of incidences of pressure injuries over a six month period? Upon conducting research on qualitative data for my research question, the study I chose found that "A static air mattress was significantly more effective than an alternating air pressure mattress in preventing pressure ulcer in a high-risk nursing home population" (Beeckman, et al., 2019). This study was a randomized controlled clinical trial that aimed to compare the effectiveness and cost of a static air mattress and an alternating air pressure mattress to prevent pressure ulcers. Randomized controlled clinical trials are also known as experimental quantitative data. These studies are considered the gold standard for evidence-based practice because they provide convincing support for the value of a treatment. Participants are randomly assigned to the experimental or control group. Each participant is equally likely to be assigned to one of these two groups. This reduces systematic bias, which is a systematic error that can be introduced into a study (LoBiondo-Wood & Haber, 2022).
