Case Scenario:
One of your major focuses is on Human Resource Issues and how related hiring decisions play a critical role in business success. To get a deeper appreciation for the importance of hiring, you have just been promoted to the role of Vice President of Human Resources for your Company. In this new role; you will be considering how you will prioritize skills, attitude, and personality in hiring a new employee for the marketing department. The role of this employee will be to help the company focus on the right target markets, independently create a marketing plan, oversee the development of marketing materials, have a company website created, and develop the company's social media strategy. As a result, marketing and hiring the right candidate is key to the company's ongoing success.
You have narrowed down the potential job candidates to two capable individuals for this position. Both seem bright, hard-working and seem to be a good fit for the job. Now, you must choose between the two and decide who is the best candidate for the position. The candidates can be summed up as follows:
Candidate 1
A person with only 2 years of marketing experience and who wants a full-time job. By hiring them full-time, you will have their full attention, be able to direct their workflow and require them to be in the office every day at the times you set. If hiring this candidate, you will have a long-term commitment to their salary and will have to pay taxes and benefits for them.
Candidate 2
A person with 10 years of marketing experience and who only wants to be a contractor or contracted employee. By hiring them, you will get more experience, greater capabilities, less training time required, only have to pay them for the actual hours worked, and not be responsible for taxes or benefits. However, their hourly pay will be considerably higher, they will have other clients demanding their time and attention, and they may not always be available at the times you need them.
