Durkheim sets out to explain two facts: that the suicide rate is fixed in each society, and that this fixed rate varies from society to society. Show how he finds inadequate the various psychological explanations of these social facts just mentioned, as well as explanations dealing with race and climate. Then show the explanations he does offer in the chapters called "Egoistic Suicide." Make sure that your discussion respects and clarifies Durkheim's distinction between a psychological and sociological explanation of suicide.
