Why is this poem a favorite?
The man she dare loves
In Atlanta, Georgia 1960, A man hit his wife, oh how it was so gritty but she stayed with him, despite the bruises and the praise, her love for him, she could never explain, he'd come back drunk, full of range and hate and she knew that he'd never change his ways. He'd hit her hard and left her lying on the ground. But still, she stayed, never making a sound. The neighbors knew, but they turned a blind eye. As if it was normal, just another day in their lives, but deep inside she wished to be free. To leave this man and finally be happy. She dreamed of a life without fear of his hand. A life where she could live and love as she planned. But fear held her back, and so she stayed a prisoner of love, in a marriage that decayed
Let us never forget that love should never be a reason to accept such mistreatment.
