Problem
1. What aspects of American, or another nation's, culture mimic the Kula ritual discussed by Malinowski? Why is the Kula ritual so important to the islanders?
2. If Mead views other non-Western societies as "primitive people", would she be able to remove the biases she speaks out against while studying the adolescent girls in Samoa? Do you feel that these theorists were able to put aside their biases when writing their ethnographies?
3. When attempting to study a culture, where is the happy medium between being an impartial observer and submerging oneself into a culture to fully understand it?
4. How have the personal lives of these theorists affected how they viewed the cultures they studied and how they viewed anthropology in general?
5. What are the problems with the models Morgan created?
