Assignment:
Part 1
The culture of a company if not reinforced can definitely kill suitability. Simon investigation showed the culture of the Chicago station was not on the same levels as the other stations. The workers were scared to speak up because they it was considered to be a bad thing. Employees should always be able to voice their opinions as long as it is in a professional manner. Because the employees were fearful they were not speaking up for safety of themselves. The fact injuries were worn as a badge shows upper management praised them when they were hurt because they were doing everything possible to increase production, even if that meant not following safety guidelines.
The fact safety guidelines were ignored and management never enforced the guidelines could have been serious trouble for Rock fish. Taylor being upper management and knowing the baggage machine was not safe but allowed his employees to use it because it produced more then the new machine. Some how Taylor has it in his head that production is a must and the more production is always good. I guarantee you if Simon continues he will find Taylor has been instructed certain things pertaining safety is OK as long as production continues to increase.
Because the company safety procedures are not enforced it has caused the Chicago branch to think safety is not important. The injuries will continue as long as the culture stays the same at the Chicago station.
Part 2
The case scenario showed how in business, people don't care about how you get to the finish line, as long as you get there. "Management said that they did not care about the safety of the machine; that the men would just have to be careful" (UMUC, 2017) was a prime example of how the consumers never know (and don't need to know) how hard companies work to stock their shelves and bring business to us, as long as we get it! Each level of supervision/management has a responsibility to keep the company successful. Each of them are extensions of the CEO's so their demeanor and work ethic must reflect the highest level of management.
