Respond to this post: It is my opinion the government plays a large role in reducing the amounts of greenhouse gasses its country produces. According to the EPA, in 2022, the percent of greenhouse gasses emitted in this country goes as follows: Transportation (28%) Electric Power (25%) Industry (23%) Residential & Commercial (13%) Agriculture (10%) Infrastructure made up 86% of greenhouse gas emissions in this country. I believe it is the government's duty to incentivize the use of renewable energy through tax cuts and provide rebates for energy sources like solar and wind. I also believe it is the government's responsibility to provide cleaner means of transportations such as railways and public walkways/bikeways. A good way to prevent unnecessary vehicular trips would be to have mixed-use communities which can be defined as a developmental area that combines, residential, commercial, and retail areas into a single place. While the government has a large role to play in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, There are a lot of things that can be done on a more personal level to reduce levels. Simple things like making sure the lights are off and the thermostat is set at a Higher/Lower set point is a way that someone could reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their own home.
