How ensure that health promotion program is culturally apt

Problem: To help ensure that a health promotion program is culturally appropriate for the community, public health professionals need to ensure that within the program implementation they also address the underlying causes of morbidity and mortality and integrate this with their intervention. Health disparities in diverse communities may derive from many factors such as environmental, behavioral, genetic and political along with the social determinations such as race, education and socioeconomic status (Maness & McCauley, 2020). Health professionals will need to identify what access and quality of healthcare is available to be able to create realistic changes that can help improve the community. They will also need to keep themselves informed of what illnesses are more prevalent in the community to help tailor their health promotion program to practice healthier behaviors in the environmental conditions that exist within the community. Also, the program delivery will need to be tailored to be culturally and linguistically appropriate, meaning that the intervention will align with the health beliefs, practice and language needs of the patients (Cultural and Linguistic Competency, n.d.).
