Problem:
Employers' organisations play an important role in South African employment relations by providing their affiliates with specialized knowledge and services. However, some criticisms in terms of their representative role have been expressed. These criticisms include the following: Select one or more: The organisations that are affiliated with employers' organisations may be direct competitors and may therefore not be willing to share information with each other. While the functions of employers' organisations include providing their affiliates with information and assisting them with labour-related matters, they do not always fulfill these functions effectively. Decisions taken by employers' organisations often reflect the views of the larger organisations and do not necessarily provide for the unique circumstances experienced by smaller businesses. Employers' organisations cannot bargain on behalf of their member organisations in industries or sectors where bargaining councils have been established.
