Problem
Watch (or read) a theatrical performance and document the elements of Freytag's pyramid. Exposition Inciting incident Rising action Complication Climax Reversal Falling action Resolution Step 1: Evaluate Effectiveness Revisit your table from Activity 1. Think about how the play handled each of the elements of Freytag's pyramid. Add a third column to the table and write your notes on the following. Was the play effective in setting the stage in the exposition stage? Why or why not? Does the inciting incident create an exciting catalyst for the action of the play? Why or why not? Does the story build excitement and interest during the rising action stage? Why or why not? Does the complication make things more difficult for the characters? How effective is this complication in making the play more exciting? Explain. Is the climax of the play exciting? How did it make you feel? How does the reversal show the characters are changed? Does the falling action resolve all the major and minor story lines and bring the story toward its logical conclusion? What evidence do you see of this? Did you find the resolution satisfying? Why or why not?
