Assignment task: Edward Gray, a 67-year-old man, was brought to the Emergency Department, by his daughter, with a wound on the left lower leg. The wound occurred due to a trauma a couple of days ago. He lives alone and was unable to leave the house due to pain and decreased mobility.
Physical examination:
Temperature 38.1oC
BMI 28.2
Wound on anterior left lower leg
Surrounding skin - red and hot to touch extending circumferentially, painful to touch and oedematous
Using the above scenario complete the following two sections:
1. Explain in 700 words
- How Edward's body is responding to the injury (Inflammatory response)
- Identify clinical manifestations demonstrated by Edward, and discuss the pathophysiological mechanisms that resulted in each of those clinical manifestations
- Discuss how nursing interventions, including medications, will reduce the inflammatory process and alleviate the symptoms
2. Develop a concept map demonstrating the following:
The effect of Histamine and Arachidonic acid in developing the clinical manifestations demonstrated by Edward (do not include the effect of chemotactic factors and plasma protein systems)
Where on this inflammatory pathway nursing care and medications will have an effect
