Dysgraphia is a specific learning disorder that focuses on the difficulties producing the written language which can look like unclear handwriting. This can affect anything from the physical ability to write as well as the expression component of writing, cursive writing, slow writing, and copying skills. Typically, this learning disorder is first noticed when the child is just starting to learn to write. There are a few ways teachers can address/help students with this learning disability like allowing them to write big and practice letters with paper that has highlighted lines, provide extra time to take notes and copy materials, allowing them to play with things like therapy putting to help strengthen their fingers and hands, get the student a board and slant the board to help positioning while writing, and lastly teaching them cursive because it integrates hand eye coordination, fine motor skills and memory functions. Cursive can also help students with dysgraphia because it eliminates the need of picking up the pencil and deciding where to replace it after each letter.
