Choose a particular Biblical Genre that we have discussed: (e.g., Epic, Biographical narrative, Poetry, Wisdom Lit., Apocalyptic Lit., Written Prophecy, etc.; see syllabus), and choose a book of the Bible that fits in this genre.
First, lay out the expectations and norms for the genre. Then, give your own outline and summary of the book. Then, compare the book with the normal expectations for the genre. Seek to answer the following questions:
How does the book make distinctive use of the norms for this genre?
How do these norms bear on the proper interpretation of the book?
How does the individual creativity of the writer, push the book beyond these norms?
