Synthesis of pyrrole by flow chemistry:
starting materials: 2,5-hexandione and ethanolamine
product: 2,5-Dimethyl-1H-pyrrole-1-Ethanol
reagents: MeOH, then acetone
1) How does the acetone in your receiving flask during the flow experiment quench the reaction? Provide the product that is formed. (Hint: What is the limiting reagent for the reaction?)
2) Why do you extract the organic layer with 1 M HCl during your work-up?
