Problem
Bradstreet and Wheately both write to an audience that accepts that women are not supposed to have advanced education, public acclaim or indeed publication. Compare and contrast their messages in Bradstreet's poem "The Prologue'' and Wheately's poem "To the University at Cambridge''. How does each poet both challenge and reinforce society's message about what women are allowed to write about and argue for? What does each woman ask for in these poems?
