How does government impact our daily lives

Assignment:

How do you reply to the following post from a classmate? Please explain.

In your society, with which socio-economical group do you identify? Why?

I identify myself as lower-middle class. My parents are in the upper-middle class bracket, but since I am a very independent person, I am okay with being lower-middle class and I will eventually work my way up. Compared to many Americans, I am very fortunate to have a decent income, and fortunate that I do not have many bills to pay since the Army provides housing, medical care, dental, and tuition assistance for college - something that the average American my age does not have. I am financially stable and the only debt I have at the moment is my car loan, which I should be finishing paying it off in about 3 more years, and I have no credit card debt. Being financially stable is important for me because we depend on income and savings to survive.

How many times have you moved and why?

I have moved several times throughout the years. My parents are originally from Spain and Greece, but I was born in Guatemala and moved to the United States when I was a kid after my parents went through the process of becoming United States citizens. I moved to Newton, Massachusetts, in the outskirts of Boston, and I lived there pretty much most of my life. Back in 2009, my parents decided to purchase a home in Ohio because my dad wanted to open up a restaurant there. Due to the economic situations in Ohio at the time, my dad realized that it would not be a great idea to open a restaurant there so we had to move back to Massachusetts the following year. After joining the military in December of 2013, I went to South Carolina for my training, I was assigned to go to South Korea for a one year overseas assignment, and now I am here in Missouri. And I am most likely going to Arizona this summer and then I am not sure where I will be going after that yet. Now that I am in the military, I will be moving more often to different duty stations.

Where is "home" for you and why?

Home for me is where I grew up and that would be Massachusetts. I currently live in an apartment here in Missouri but I refer to it as "my place" when talking to other people about it. But when I talk about my home in Massachusetts, I refer to it as "my home." Back home, that is where I went to school, played sports (football, wrestling, and baseball) for 7 years and made most of my friends, which helped me become who I am today. But most importantly, most of my family lives there and I am very close to them. I lived very close to the beach and my dad and I would go fishing out there in the ocean several times a week during the summer, snowboarding in the winter, and do so much more. If I ever have the chance to go back and live there again, I would move back without even thinking about it twice. Boston will always be my home and I am proud of it.

In your opinion, which groups obtain the most power in your society and in the world? Explain your comments.

The group that obtains the most power in our society and in the world are the wealthy government officials that impact our daily lives here at home and abroad. "The government impacts lives daily by determining how each individual state, county and city operates. At each level of government, laws are created to ensure citizens follow rules and contribute to the community. The government has a direct influence on several aspects of life that include land use, property taxes, laws, education, health care and the living conditions within neighborhoods. The government also establishes and maintains numerous public services" (Reference, n. d.).

It is important to understand that people that work for the government determine what is best for us and for the rest of the world. They are wealthy, rarely ever struggle financially, and they are our leaders that impact the way we live and the way we want the rest of the world to be - we are the police of the world and we tend to either agree or disagree with what the government does outside of the United States. I believe these are the group of people that obtain the most power in our society.
