How does aristotle explain how to acquire moral virtue in

Introduction to Ethics van Ingen

Paper Assignment #1

Write a one-page (1.5-2.0) spaced paper, which answers the following question about Aristotle's The Nicomachean Ethics:

In Book II entitled "Moral Virtue, How It Is Acquired," Aristotle begins the first chapter making a quick distinction between moral and intellectual virtue, and then he turns directly to how moral virtue is acquired. In the 4th paragraph of this first chapter, Aristotle states,

"...states of character arise out of like activities." (p. 24)

1) How does Aristotle explain how to acquire moral virtue in this first chapter?

Include in your answer what "like activities" have to do with the process of acquiring moral virtue?

Present your answer to the above question within a single paper of one page in length. If you "end up" with more than 1 page, I suggest you revise again so that the paper can be acceptable. No cover pages, simply put your name on the top of the page.

You may place any references from the course text in parentheses, e.g., (NE23) for p. 23 of The Nicomachean Ethics.

All other uses of sources (including electronic sources) of the thoughts of others, including summarizing, restating or paraphrasing, as well as directly quoting, must be acknowledged by footnotes.

Plagiarism - The deliberate adoption or reproduction of ideas or words or statements of another person as one's own without acknowledgment.

You commit plagiarism whenever you use a source in any way without indicating that you have used it. If you quote anything at all, even a phrase, you must put quotation marks around it, or set it off from your text; if you summarize or paraphrase an author's words, you must clearly indicate where the summary or paraphrase begins and ends; if you use an author's idea, you must say that you are doing so.

In every instance, you also must formally acknowledge the written source from which you took the material. (This includes any material taken from Internet sources.)
