Problem
According to the NAEMT, there is a nationwide shortage of paramedics. EMS personnel, in general, are down in many areas of the country. There has been debate about EMT and paramedic education. Some believe that paramedics should have at a minimum an Associates's Degree. There is also a debate as to the optimal staffing situations. Should every ambulance have a paramedic? Should there be two EMT's in a truck and two paramedics in others (this is the FDNY model)? How do we staff our vehicles and protect the community?
