How do we know whether project scope change is really

First Discussion:

In this week's materials we saw that, while no project executes exactly according to plan, changing the scope of a project needs to be done deliberately. Before we can decide whether to change the project's scope we need to first determine IF we need to change project scope.

So, how do we know whether project scope change is really needed? What events, activities or other warning signs tell us project scope needs to be re-evaluated?

For this first discussion board this week, finish this sentence: "you know your project scope probably needs to be changed when..." Identify any 4 distinct events, activities, or warning signs that indicate project scope change is probably necessary (keep it clean!)

Second Discussion:

For our final discussion together, we're going to take one last look at the Rosa County Public Safety Upgrade project which, as we've come to expect, is having a bit of trouble executing its plan.

We will collectively act as the Public Safety Upgrade Change Control Board to review the current situation and decide what needs to happen next.

First, read the case study update file attached to this discussion thread.

Second, consider, based on the case study update and all other course concepts we've discussed, what you think the Public Safety Upgrade project needs (something needs to be done for this project!) What changes could we make to the existing plan to help this project?

Third, describe to the rest of us your suggested change to the project. Identify the following information about your suggestion:

1. What exactly would you change (tasks, deliverables, outputs)?

2. Why is this change the best course of action?

3. Does your change require an adjustment to the project schedule or budget (expressed in general terms, since we don't have detailed information about task durations and costs?)

4. What will happen if your proposed change request is denied?

Finally, as others post their proposed changes to this project, comment on whether the suggested change seems to be a good idea and whether you would support making the change or not (stated constructively, of course.

Realize also this means some people in the course will not agree with your proposal - do not take this personally.) Toward the end of the week we will collectively determine which changes are most appropriate for Rosa County.
