Echoing Sherlock Holmes's assertion from A Scandal in Bohemia (which we will listen to later this semester) -- "It is a capital mistake to theorise before one has data. Insensibly one begins to twist facts to suit theories, instead of theories to suit facts" -- Hart accuses Rust of prejudicing his investigation by bending the narrative of the case to fit his preconceived notion of the criminal mind. Yet as the end of Episode 1 makes clear, Rust has greater insight into the crime than any of his colleagues. How do his methods of detection relate to those of the questioning philosopher and how do they differ?
