Problem
It's difficult to believe, but quite often the source of our mental problems (including some mental disorders!) are our faulty thinking patterns and beliefs. Cognitive therapists help their clients to recognize and get rid of such harmful thought patterns.
Imaging that a child had an overly critical parents, who had always pointed out to things that went wrong, and quite often "forgot" to celebrate the child's achievements and successes. If a child grows in a such family, the child internalizes this approach and starts to think the same way, paying attention mostly to negative things and overlooking positive things that happened to him or her. How do cognitive psychologists call this particular faulty thinking pattern? Do you think this person is more likely to develop depression or anxiety disorders? Why?
