Problem
a) Think about the repetitive behaviors that are often associated with individuals with ASD. All behaviors must be considered in the context in which they occur. Do you ever engage in behaviors that could be considered repetitive? Can you think of behaviors that are considered acceptable in some situations but not in other situations? How did you learn which behaviors are appropriate for certain contexts? Can you think of behaviors that can be considered socially acceptable in our culture and are also self-injurious?
b) Did you know any stereotypes about people with ASD before reading this chapter? How did you learn these stereotypes and from what sources? How did your knowledge of these stereotypes impact your perceptions of real people with ASD? How can these stereotypes impact social and cultural perceptions about people with ASD
