Question: Review how Hitler viewed abstract art in particular, created by Jews (as well as non-Jew, "fringe" populations, as defined by the Aryan ideal). Compare the abstract works against the idealized realism from Hitler's propaganda posters.
1. How surprised were you to find out Hitler was a realist artist? How do you feel about his art: do you consider it "good"?
2. How did the control of images, and types of images promoted by Hitler, help him achieve such a dedicated following? How do you think those types of images contributed to what would eventually become the Holocaust?
3. Now, relate this to our contemporary times. Could we, as a modern, free society, be likewise seduced into believing or supporting a similar horrific ideology, simply from the types of images and messages we are exposed to in modern media?Could history repeat itself?
