Article: Running Away During Adolescence and Future Homelessness: The Amplifying Role of Mental Health
Definition: According to the HUD 2017 report, emerging adults and adolescents (24 y/o and under) make up 30% of all homeless individuals. High levels of depressive symptoms among adolescents are linked to the probability of experiencing homelessness, in comparison to youth that reported low levels of depression symptomology. As a teenager, running away at least once, increased the likelihood of reporting homelessness by early adulthood (Williams et al., 2019).
Main research question: What are the factors that contribute to depression in homeless adolescents and young adults?
Two-sub questions:
i. How does depression affect a homeless adolescent or young adult?
ii. Does the level of depression change with the duration of homeless for this population?
