It is time to apply what you have learned. Within this unit, you have learned that culturalism has a global context. For this assignment, you must find a person who you know is different from you in ways that might mean your worldviews are incredibly different. Sometimes this is a person who is older than you, from a different generation, or from a different racial or sexual orientation group. Make some time to conduct an interview asking the person the questions listed below.
- What is your cultural identity?
- How was your cultural identity developed?
- Have you faced stigma based on your social identity? Please describe these effects.
- Does your status on this identity facet hold power in the United States? (For example, if you identify as a man, your gender is a group that holds power in the United States today.)
- What messages do you get about this identity facet in the media or from other information readily available? Do you agree or disagree with these messages?
- What values, strengths, or beliefs do you think come along with your identity in this area?
- What influenced your worldview?
- How do you react to different worldviews?
- How might you interact with a person whose worldview is incredibly different from yours?
Once you have conducted the interview, record your answers to the questions as well.
Within your two-page response, you must address the issues described below.
Be sure to summarize your respondent's answers in a coherently developed essay. You must integrate your answers to the questions as well. Do not forget to discuss how culturalism is considered in a global context. Furthermore, your response should also address how cultural awareness is influenced by one's community.
You must use a minimum of one source for this assignment. The textbook can serve as your source. Adhere to APA Style when constructing this assignment, including in-text citations and references for all sources that are used. Please note that no abstract is needed.
