How criminal justice system is flawed

Assignment task:

Respond to this discussion post: I definitely think our criminal justice system is flawed. Simply put, when flaws in the system such as wrongful convictions, systemic oppression, and class discrimination exist, that system is flawed. That being said, no matter what, our criminal justice system needs to take accountability for all of its errors, and have better procedures in place to prevent more from occurring. Research on wrongful convictions has been able to identify many flaws in the criminal justice system. For example, coerced confessions, false eyewitness statements, racial biases, and bad legal representation are common in wrongful conviction cases. Which is why it's important that we push for reforms. A system in place for "justice" needs access to good legal representation regardless of income, shifted focus from punitive measures to rehabilitation and reform, etc. There are definitely a lot of issues, and I wouldn't even know where to start. But I think our justice system needs better and more frequent checks and investigations. Errors such as wrongful convictions and racial biases harm the people's trust in the system, but as long as we ensure the system stays accountable, that trust can be rebuilt.
