Problem: Spain had two democratic experiences in 20th century. The first was the so-called II Republic (1931-36), the second started in 1977 and has continued up to the present. Using the concepts and categories of the course, explore hypotheses about the different outcome in each case (failed democracy in the 1930s, successful democracy in the 1970s). IMPORTANT NOTE: Spain is just an excuse here. Think more broadly about democratization theories and how can we successfully explain that some countries manage to consolidate their democratic systems and some others not.
