Overview
Schools and school districts often collaborate with health agencies to develop initiatives designed to improve healthy communities.
There is a wealth of information, tools, and resources to support school health policy and program development, implementation, and evaluation. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention communicate the various policies, ranging from guidelines to laws, which provide a foundation for school district practices and procedures. These policies essentially assure families, students, and school staff that safety and health protection measures are in place.
Preparation
Visit the NASBE State School Health Policy Database and review the school policies in the state in which your target population-or a segment of your target population-is located. Choose two policies geared toward health education and promotion and address the following:
• How beneficial are these policies in the promotion of health and education among your target population?
• How could these policies affect your community health promotion initiative? Discuss the positive and negative impacts the policies might have on the initiative.
The response must include a reference list. One-inch margins, double-space, Using Times New Roman 12 pnt font and APA style of writing and citations.
