Problem: The corona virus crisis began as a health emergency but quickly transformed into a political and economic crisis. Globally, unemployment levels spiked. In Canada, like many countries around the world, more than seven million people sought basic income support through the new Canada emergency response benefit (cerb). Understandably, Canada debt and deficit has risen as a result of the energy stimulus funding. Is this a crisis in the making (as neoliberal proponents argue) or a manageable and sound economic response (as many progressives contend)? How do right and left approached to dealing with the deficit and debt differ?
