Project Homework: Analysis Paper and PowerPoint Presentation

Instructions

In the project, you will curate an art exhibition that focuses on a social issue that you choose. The exhibition will include:

i. 4 works of art that you either select or create
ii. An analysis paper that discusses the 4 works of art
iii. A PowerPoint presentation of your exhibition that you will post to the class in a discussion board

Step A: Select your social issue and your works of art

Pick a social issue that interests you. Then, consider all of the places you can go to find different works of art. Find four works of art that are connected to your social issue in some way. Please note: you may create (yourself) one or more works of art that you would like to include in your exhibition.

Step B: Write an analysis paper of the four works of art

Create an analysis of the works of art that you selected for your social issue. The analysis for each work selected should include:

I. An image of the work of art (make sure you cite the image correctly)

II. The name of the artist, title, medium, date it was created, and where it is located

III. A description of the work of art (what it looks like)

IV. A brief description of the context of the work of art. Possible ways to discuss context include:

i. Historical, social and personal/narrative context, political, scientific

ii. Expression, Unification/Exclusion, Communication, Protest/Shock, Celebration/Commemoration, Worship, Information/Education/Inspiration

iii. Various forms of identity, including national, cultural, ethnic, sex/gender, class, and personal identity

V. A discussion of of the following questions:

i. How does the context impact what you believe the artist is communicating in this work of art? Be sure to provide specific examples from the work in order to support your points.

ii. How does context impact how you feel when you look at the work of art? Be sure to provide specific examples from the work in order to support your points.

iii. Do you believe this work is successful? Why or why not? Be sure to provide specific examples from the work in order to support your points.

Step C: Create your PowerPoint presentation

You will create a PowerPoint presentation of your exhibition to share with the class. Your presentation must include a PowerPoint that includes:

I. Slide 1: Title of your Exhibition and Identification of your Social Issue

II. Slide 2: Table of Contents to your Exhibition (i.e. - a slide that identifies which works of art you include in your powerpoint presentation).

III. Slides 3, 4, 5, 6:

On each slide:

i. An image of the work of art created by other artists in your exhibition.
ii. The name of the artist, the title of work, date work was created and location of the work
iii. A brief discussion of the context surrounding the work of art and why this work is in your exhibition

Format your homework according to the following formatting requirements:

i) The answer should be typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), double spaced, with one-inch margins on all sides.

ii) The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the homework, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.

iii) Also include a reference page. The Citations and references must follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
