Assignment: Internet Job Description Analysis
Many companies use the Web to post job openings and to provide a description of these jobs. Select one organization that has at least five job descriptions posted for open positions and that lists the pay for each of these openings. Compile the posted information on at least five job descriptions for your chosen organization and answer the following questions.
To meet these criteria, you may want to consider Web sites for state and federal governments, hospitals, and large universities. In each case, defend your answers with specific information derived from the job descriptions and your reading assignments. Your Activity responses should be both grammatically and mechanically correct and formatted in the same fashion as the Activity itself. If there is a Part A, your response should identify a Part A, etc. In addition, you must appropriately cite all resources used in your response and document them in a bibliography using APA style. (A 3-page response is required for the combination of Parts A and B.)
Part A
Evaluate each of your five selected job descriptions based on the following.
1. How complete are the job descriptions posted for these organizations?
2. What important information is missing?
3. Are "essential job functions" listed, and if so, do they meet the legal criteria for essential functions?
4. Propose specific changes for any deficiencies you find and justify the rationale.
Part B
Using the pay information for your selected job descriptions, describe the relative differences in pay among the five (5) job openings discussed in Part A. Discuss what criteria the organization is apparently using to determine the relative value of jobs within the organization; that is, what factors seem to account for some positions being paid more than others are? Frame your answer in the context of the point-factor method of job evaluation, focusing on the issues below.
1. Closely Related Job Titles
2. Multiple Job Levels
3. Compensable Factors
4. Adapting Factors from Existing Plans
5. Factors Weighted According to Importance
6. Responsibilities
Format your assignment according to the following formatting requirements:
1. The answer should be typed, double spaced, using Times New Roman font (size 12), with one-inch margins on all sides.
2. The response also includes a cover page containing the title of the assignment, the student's name, the course title, and the date. The cover page is not included in the required page length.
3. Also include a reference page. The Citations and references should follow APA format. The reference page is not included in the required page length.
