Problem: For my research proposal, a non-experimental research design becomes a necessity in the examination of the complex issue of how climate change is going to affect international relations. It is not based merely on any methodological preference but rather in full consideration of the multifaceted nature of the topic and the remarkable advantages that non-experimental designs bring. The control in the case of climate change and international relations has various interlinked dimensions like environmental, economic, social, and geopolitical. It is the complexity of climate change and international relations that is better handled by non-experimental designs, consisting of qualitative case studies, content analysis, or historical analysis. In this way, such designs will be able to provide an in-depth exploration into how climate change-induced transformations shape international alliances, conflicts, and negotiations without the artificial manipulation of variables.
