Food chosen: DEVOUR White Cheddar Mac and Cheese with Bacon
Part 1 : Examine the food labels on some high-energy, high-fat, high-saturated fat, high-added sugar ready meals that can be purchased from a supermarket store, and conduct a meal plan for a similar but healthier meal that could be prepared in the home using fresh food items. Estimate the energy, fat, saturated fat, carbohydrate, and free-sugar content of your meal using food composition tables to determine each of these for your individual food items.
Part 2: Critically think how to make the same meal but healthier. How can you reduce the sugar and saturated-fat? (Do not pick a healthy meal, or you will have a difficult time making it even healthier.) Describe all of the ingredients, nutrition facts, and why the meal is now healthier according to a peer-reviewed research article that you must cite if use one.
