Bible Passage:
"This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth."
Audience (preschool, elementary, youth, adult): This message is for all age groups, but mainly youth and adults.
Theme of the passage:In 1 John 3:16-18, the theme of these verses are that we are to love one another through actions as Christ did. Jesus gave his life for everyone because of love, so we as believers should show love towards others.
Help out a brother or sister whatever their need may be. All the while showing through your actions the love of yourself and the father.
Passage Outline (Each point in your outline should be related to the theme of the passage):
Chrisitans are called to love through action.
1. Jesus lay down his life for God's children, so out of love should we not do the same? 1 John 3:16 a.
2. Christians are called to lay down their lives in love. 1 John 3:16 b.
3. Christians are advised to physically show love to one another. They should show love because of all the love and blessings God showed towards them.

Now that your audience knows what this passage is about, give them practical guidance on what they need to do about it.
1. Show kindness and love. Open the door for someone, help an elderly person with their groceries and ask for nothing in return.
2. Buy a person a meal, whether they have the money or not.
3. Use your spare time to help one of your local organizations for the less fortunate or those who are in way disabled.
