Problem
We have been hearing a lot this spring and summer about social justice and we need to be hearing about that. Not just hearing about that but doing something about it. Read Exodus 22:16-23:9. Some of those laws are weird (paying the bride price after having sex with a man's virgin daughter, killing sorceresses, and those who engage in bestiality) but most of those laws are about respecting others and treating them well (treating sojourners -like our migrant workers-well, not taking advantage of the poor in lending money or in rendering justice, not lying about someone, helping an enemy). How can we use these laws as a guide for us today as we try to live with respect and compassion with all others in society?
