Ancient Egyptian Civilization
Select a piece of popular media (movie, T.V. show, etc.) produced in the West that, at least in some ways, explains/demonstrates/articulates Ancient Egyptian Civilization (Prince of Egypt, for example). Thinking about the ways in which popular culture shape the collective discourse of a society, indicate to me the following:
1) was the media accurate? Why or why not?;
2) how can historians use media to supplement their research;
3) is your selection a positive contribution to academic discourse focusing on Egyptian society?;
4) how can the use of popular media affect a nation's historical narrative? Can it be used for good? Evil? Or as a tool to educate?;
5) how differently do you think your selection's contents would have been had it not been produced in the West?
