Assignment:
1. How can public opinion influence government policy? Describe a scenario where public opinion had an impact on politics.
2. What accounts for the media's agenda of issues and topics? What explains the character of media coverage? What factors determine the interpretation that a particular story will receive?
3. Do you believe voting should be mandatory? Why or why not?
4. How does culture and the media affect voting practices and participation?
5. Many people believe that the media plays too big of a role in the U.S. political system. Do you agree or disagree with this? Explain the role they have assumed.
6. How can HR employees increase the amount of qualified and potentially excellent candidates to apply for a job while avoiding having to sift through those less-excellent applications?
Conditions:
The best possible person a human resource professional can hire is the best person who applies for the job.
If ability and intelligence are normally distributed, more people applying for a job increases the chances of an excellent person in the applicant pool.
Article Critique
Write a peer-reviewed journal related to HR recruiting. There is a minimum requirement of 500 words for the article critique.
• Format your critique in APA style.
• Begin with an introduction that defines the subject of your critique and your point of view. You will first need to identify and explain the author's ideas. Include specific passages that support your description of the author's point of view.
• Take into consideration how you would approach a recruiting program for your company based on the author's ideas on the subject matter.
• What challenges would you face if your company were a global conglomerate?
• Defend your point of view by raising specific issues or aspects of the argument. Offer your own opinion. Explain what you think about the argument. Describe several points with which you agree or disagree.
• Explain how the passages support your opinion.
• Conclude your critique by summarizing your argument and re-emphasizing your opinion.
• For each of the points you mention, include specific passages from the text (you may summarize, quote, or paraphrase, being sure to include proper in-text citations) that provide evidence for your point of view.
