Problem
Who's a doctor? Who's a patient?
The nature of the role of the doctor in society is deep. For example, we often call a person doctor when in fact they never went to medical school or are even a health care provider. (The musician Dr. John, for example; although in his defense, Tulane did give him an honorary doctorate so he could legitimately call himself a doctor if he wanted to!) Lawyers are technically a doctor (juris doctor) but society doesn't call them doctors.
Patients are a varied group as well. In fact, a person doesn't have to be sick to be considered a patient. Irrespective of illness, is a person a patient only because they seek out health care? What about the person who is ill but doesn't seek health care?
Who is a health care provider? Who is a patient? How can health care providers and patients best interact to obtain the best possible outcomes? Where and why can things go wrong?
