You have just accepted a new job as principal of a medium-sized school in your county. You are excited with this leadership role and have many ideas to implement during your tenure. After your first week, you discover that faculty morale and motivation are low. You have heard comments such as "This place is slowing going down the drain," "I can't wait until I can get another job," and "Good luck to whoever takes charge of this sinking boat." You are determined to make a difference and change the faculty's perception of the school. The first faculty meeting is in a week.
Consider Canter and Canter's approach for turning theory into practice (Coleman & Glover, 2010). In a 3 to 5 page paper, discuss how you would apply this approach in the given situation. Elaborate on your plan to address the faculty at the upcoming meeting. What communication practices will you employ and why?
