Problem
For yesteryear's teachers, being "fair" meant treating everyone exactly alike and expecting all students to complete exactly the same work in exactly the same ways under exactly the same conditions. In this era of widely diverse student populations, what does it mean for a teacher to be "fair"? What will you need to know about your students in order to build a classroom community and develop classroom instruction that is both inclusive and growth-inspiring? How can a teacher meet the needs of a wide array of students and still maintain a sense of community and togetherness in the classroom?
