PROMPT Immigration has received a lot of attention as of late. Fortunately for us, it also helps illuminate some of the more complex dimensions of federalism. We have a tendency to think, with good reason, that politics is something that takes place in Washington, D.C. However, in looking to D.C., we can easily overlook the role that states and local governments play in our political system. For this assignment, you will be given the chance to engage the topic of immigration by looking at the cases of California and Arizona. In accepting this task, you will be asked to do the following:
1. Craft an introduction that briefly explains federalism, introduces the topic of immigration federalism, and authors a thesis that highlights the role of federal, state, and local governments in immigration.
2. Write a succinct account explaining how the judiciary(i.e. the federal courts) and Congress (i.e. the legislative branch) have ruled and interacted with states when it comes to immigration.
3. Discuss how California and Arizona have taken integrationist or restrictionist approaches to immigration by looking at the following areas:
Immigration Enforcement, Employment, and Post-Secondary Education.
4.Finish with a concluding paragraph explaining why states matter when it comes to immigration.
