How assessment of risk was affected by previous hurricane

Assignment task:

Chapter: The Unthinkable - Risk BY AMANADA RIPLEY This chapter on Risk started off with a sad story about Mr. Patrick Turner and how his assessment of risk was affected by previous hurricanes. He remained in denial, never evacuated, and he died in his attic with a baseball bat and crucifix. Was Mr. Turners life experiences a good teacher? Or was he just set in his ways and did not like to change...for anything? Are some humans in a "fog" when a disaster is on their doorstep, or when it just occurred and they deny it? Who did Mr. Turner trust? Then we read about Dennis Mileti and his experiences in the world of disaster research. He refers to "trust" as a major factor in assessing risk. Who did Elia Zedeno trust in the World Trade Center? Did her experience with trust impact her assessment of risk? For this Discussion Board and as an emergency management student, describe the core competencies you would need to be successful in convincing the public, and political leaders to trust you and do exactly what you recommend for a disaster about to happen?
