Some critics have seen the events at the smoker as symbolic or perhaps as an allegory of the plight of African Americans in the segregated South. Pick at least two specific events from the story. How are these events meant to explain certain aspects of the African American experience (this can be based on your prior knowledge OR you can use King's text as your background reference) before the civil rights movement of the 1960s? Be as specific as possible.
