Part A:

Write a paper on the historical and social aspects of race and how society's ideas about race continue to influence individuals, specifically minority groups.
Your paper should address the following:
• Please include in your analysis the aspect of apathy on the part of the dominant Caucasian culture in terms of racism in the United States.
• How are Caucasian-Americans influenced by race in society today?
• What can we do to improve race relations in America?

Some groups in the United States have certain freedoms or access to things that other groups do not. Social scientists examine the various degrees of privilege or lack of privilege among different groups.

Research Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and discuss why it is so significant.
Your paper should discuss the state of race relations in the United States prior to the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It should also discuss the political environment that led to the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Additionally, please include a response to the following in your analysis:
• What is the purpose of this law?
• What groups does it protect?
• What groups does it not protect?
• What is the U.S. Supreme Court case Plessy v. Ferguson about? Is the rule established in the Plessy case still the rule today?
