How and why is a significant part of the Mediterranean's history that of outsiders wanting in: who are they, why do they want in, where do they come from, how do they get in; and what do they do once in? Make sure to include the Germans, Arabs, the Normans, the Crusaders, and the Mongols. This is meant to be a question for a long essay on a final exam. Lots of detail would be great.
