Systems of representation reflect global power relations and are constructed in particular social contexts, which vary across time and space (Williams et al, "Imagining the Global South"). Drawing on course materials, discuss the following:
I. How and in what ways European colonialism depended on and engaged in processes of 'othering'.
II. What was the legacy of these representations following political independence of the Third World.
